In the winter, skin is exposed to cold, wind and a lack of humidity.
Abrupt temperature changes are common (going from outdoor cold to indoor heating) and have a negative effect on skin, rapidly reducing moisturization levels.
The protective barrier function of the skin is altered, and becomes more vulnerable to external aggressive factors.
The alteration of the cutaneous barrier can be manifested in the form of dry or tight skin, itching, scaling and redness and in the most severe stage, eczema.
In winter, skin requires extra care to remain healthy and attractive. That is why we give these five recommendations to save your skin from the consequences of cold:
Prolonged contact with water and heat alters the hydrolipidic film and dehydrate the skin.
This is especially important in case of suffering atopic dermatitis, or rosacea. The texture of the cream will depend on the skin type; the dryer the skin, the more unctuous and nurturing the texture of the cream should be.
Don’t forget to moisturize your hands, throat and lips. They are especially sensitive to ambient dryness. Moisturize lips and hands several times a day, and wear gloves whenever outdoors.
Use #syndet soaps, which are not aggressive to skin.
Always use solar protection. Dry skins with weakened barrier functions are the most vulnerable.
Daily solar protection is also necessary in winter, especially in snowy areas, as snow reflects 80% of solar radiation.
Use cotton fabrics as much as possible. In addition to conserving warmth, they keep skin dry and facilitate the evaporation of perspiration.
If possible, do not set the thermostat above 24 °C, as this will dry out the air, and with it, your skin. Use of humidifiers is recommended.
